Quick definition

Rich results are search results with extra visual or interactive elements beyond the title, URL and snippet, such as prices, review stars, breadcrumbs, event dates or images. Most rely on structured data, and search engines decide when to show them.

How it works

Google lists the features it supports in its search gallery, each with required properties. Valid markup makes a page eligible; whether a rich result appears depends on the query, the device, the page’s quality and Google’s own choices.

The supported set changes. Google stopped showing HowTo rich results in 2023, announced in 2025 that it was phasing out several more types, including vehicle listings, and since 7 May 2026 no longer shows FAQ rich results on any site. Check the current gallery before building markup for a feature.

Why it matters

A product result with price and availability, or a local result with opening hours, answers part of the question before the click. That can raise click-through rate for relevant searches, and it can also satisfy some searchers without a visit.

How to check it

  1. Run important templates through the Rich Results Test.
  2. Watch Search Console‘s enhancement reports for errors after site changes.
  3. Use the Search appearance filter in the Performance report to see clicks and impressions for each rich result type.

Common mistakes and misconceptions

  • Myth FAQ markup still earns FAQ rich results.

In fact Google limited FAQ rich results to government and health sites in 2023 and stopped showing them for every site on 7 May 2026. FAQPage remains valid schema.org markup, but it no longer changes how a result looks in Google.
