Alerts

Know when a check fails or a position drops

Ranking-movement alerts flag keywords that moved sharply between checks, and a run alert tells you when a scheduled check did not run, so a gap in the history is never mistaken for a stable position.

  • A warning when a scheduled run is missed
  • Re-run on demand with the cost shown

UNDER THE HOOD

How rank tracking works.

How the numbers are produced, so you can judge them for yourself.

One live result per check

Each check asks DataForSEO for the live Google result for the keyword, location and device, then records where your domain’s best result ranks, which URL it was, and the SERP features on the page.

Due trackers, not constant polling

A scheduled job looks for trackers that are due, daily, weekly or monthly, and runs them. Manual trackers run only when you ask.

Competitors from the same result

Competitor positions come from the same results as yours, so the comparison is like for like: same keyword, location, device and moment.

Costs before checks

The estimate multiplies keywords, devices and checks per month by the provider price, and is shown before a tracker is saved or re-run.

HOW IT WORKS

From a keyword list to a trend you can explain.

Four steps from connecting your data to a decision you can stand behind.

01

Choose the scope

Pick the domain, keywords, device and a national, city or regional location for the market you serve.

02

Review the estimate

See the cost per check and per month before you save a daily, weekly, monthly or manual schedule.

03

Read what moved

Start from winners and losers, open the keyword history and check the ranking URL and SERP features.

04

Act and confirm

Change the page, add a note, and let later checks show whether the gain held.

WITH YOUR AI AGENT

Ask why a keyword dropped, not just where it sits.

Your agent reads the tracker, the history and the competitors in the same results, then checks Search Console before it explains a change.

  • Uses the same data as the web app
  • Paid tools estimate their cost first
  • Saves the report to the project

DATA & LIMITS

Know what the numbers can and cannot tell you.

Where the data comes from, how fresh it is, and the questions it cannot answer on its own.

SourceWhat it providesFreshness & limits
DataForSEO SERP APIOrganic positions, ranking URLs, SERP features and competitor positions.Fetched on your schedule; paid per check. Results vary by location, device and time.
Google Ads keyword dataSearch volume for the tracker’s location.Monthly estimates; some cities have no published volume.
Google Search ConsoleClicks and impressions for the same queries, for context.Your own data, about three days behind.

LIMIT

A position is one observation

Results change with location, device, personalisation and time. A single check is a sample, so read the trend across checks.

LIMIT

Scheduled is not continuous

Each tracker runs on its schedule. A daily tracker does not refresh every keyword every few minutes.

LIMIT

Volume is an estimate

Search volume comes from Google Ads data and is rounded. Similar phrases can share one estimate; they are not separate demand.

LIMIT

Rank is not traffic

A higher position does not guarantee clicks when AI Overviews, ads or other features sit above the result. Search Console shows the clicks.

FAQ

Rank tracking: common questions.

Straight answers about what it does, what it costs and where its limits are.

How often are positions checked?

On the schedule you choose for each tracker: daily, weekly, monthly or manual. Scheduled jobs check what is due; they do not refresh every keyword continuously.

Can I track by city?

Yes, in supported city and regional locations. Local tracking uses city-level volume where available rather than silently substituting a national number.

Does rank tracking cost credits?

Yes. Rank checks use paid market data, and the cost is estimated before a tracker starts.

Are desktop and mobile tracked separately?

Yes. You can track desktop, mobile or both, and each position is stored separately.

Which search engines and devices are tracked?

Google results on desktop and mobile. Each device is tracked separately, because rankings often differ between them.

Can I track competitors?

Yes. Competitors from the project appear beside your positions, with the keywords where they rank above you on page one.

Can I export rankings?

Yes. Tracked keywords and positions export to CSV or Google Sheets.

What happens if a check fails?

The tracker shows a warning that the run did not complete, and you can re-run it with the cost shown first. A missing check is never filled with a guess.

Can my AI agent manage trackers?

Yes. Through MCP, agents can create trackers, estimate costs, add, pin or remove keywords and read results for projects you can access.

What are the limits of the data?

Rank checks use paid market data. A scheduled job checks due work; it does not mean every keyword is refreshed every five minutes. Search results vary by context and time.

How do I get access?

Platform access is reviewed. Request access with your website and the data sources you use, and the team will help you connect them.
