DNS Records Explorer

DNS decides whether a site is reachable at all, on which servers, and whether its email can be trusted. After a migration or a hosting change, a missing www record or a duplicate SPF record breaks things quietly. This explorer shows the records and flags the common mistakes.

HOW IT WORKS

How to use the DNS Records Explorer

A domain or host name.

01

Enter the domain without https://.

02

Check the address and www results first, then email.

03

After changing a record, check again once its TTL has passed.

WHAT IT CHECKS

What it looks at, and how to read it.

Every record returned by public DNS, and checks on what they mean for the site and its email.

Checks

What it checks

  • A, AAAA and CNAME records for the host
  • Whether www resolves
  • Number of name servers
  • One SPF record, and a DMARC policy when the domain receives mail
  • CAA records

Results

How to read the results

  • IPv6 (AAAA) is good practice but not required.
  • DMARC p=none only reports spoofing; quarantine or reject stops it.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common mistakes, an example and the limits.

Mistakes

Common mistakes

  • Adding a second SPF record for a new email tool instead of merging it into the first.

Example

A worked example

After moving hosts, the apex points to the new server but www still has the old provider’s CNAME, so half the visitors see the old site.

Limits

Limitations

  • Shows what a public resolver returns now; changes can take up to the records’ TTL to reach everyone.
  • Does not list every subdomain; DNS does not offer that.

FAQ

Questions about the DNS Records Explorer

Straight answers about what it does and where its limits are.

Does DNS affect SEO?

Indirectly: if DNS fails or is slow, crawlers cannot reach the site, and migrations with DNS mistakes lose traffic.
