HOW IT WORKS
How to use the Internal Link Suggestion Tool
The page you want links to, and the phrase or topic it covers.
Enter the page you want more links to.
Enter the phrase a link to it should use, such as its main keyword.
Open each suggested page and add a link where the phrase reads naturally.
WHAT IT CHECKS
What it looks at, and how to read it.
Crawled pages that mention the phrase without linking to the page, most mentions first, and how many already link to it.
What it checks
- Pages that mention the phrase, and how often
- Which of them already link to your page
- Whether your page was reachable in the crawl at all
How to read the results
- More mentions usually mean a more relevant page to link from.
- Pages with noindex are left out; links from them still count for crawling but rarely matter.

GOOD TO KNOW
Common mistakes, an example and the limits.
Common mistakes
- Adding the same exact-match anchor everywhere. Vary the wording.
- Linking from every page that mentions the phrase in passing.
A worked example
For a site audit features page and the phrase "site audit", the tool lists three blog posts that discuss audits but link nowhere.
Limitations
- Crawls at most 50 pages, breadth first from the start URL, so on a bigger site it covers the pages closest to it.
- Follows links in the HTML the server sends. Links a page adds with JavaScript, and pages linked only from forms or scripts, are not found.
- Stays on the start URL’s host and obeys its robots.txt for our crawler; blocked pages are counted, not fetched.
- Matches the exact phrase in each page’s text, ignoring case. Synonyms and other word forms are not matched.
