Indexability Checker
A page can only rank if Google is allowed to crawl and index it, and the signals that decide that are spread across the server, robots.txt and the HTML. This check fetches the page and its site’s robots.txt and reads them all together.

HOW IT WORKS
How to use the Indexability Checker
One public page URL.
Enter the full address of the page.
Read the verdict at the top, then each signal below it.
Fix anything marked as a problem, then check again.
WHAT IT CHECKS
What it looks at, and how to read it.
An overall verdict (indexable, indexable with warnings, or not indexable) and each signal behind it.
What it checks
- HTTP status and redirects
- robots.txt rules for Googlebot on this path
- Robots meta tags (robots and googlebot)
- X-Robots-Tag response header
- Canonical tag: missing, self, elsewhere or conflicting
- Pages that are mostly a JavaScript app shell
How to read the results
- Not indexable means at least one signal blocks indexing outright.
- A canonical pointing elsewhere is a hint, not a block: Google usually indexes the URL it points to.
- A blocked robots.txt stops crawling, not indexing: a blocked URL can still appear in results without a description.
The concepts behind it, in the SEO glossary: Indexing, Noindex, Soft 404.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common mistakes, an example and the limits.
Common mistakes
- Using robots.txt to remove a page from Google. Use noindex, and let Google crawl the page to see it.
- Leaving a staging site’s noindex in place after launch.
- Canonicals on every page pointing to the homepage.
A worked example
A store’s new category page is missing from Google. The check shows a noindex in the X-Robots-Tag header, added by a caching plugin rule meant for the cart.
Limitations
- Checks the HTML the server sends. Content a page adds with JavaScript after loading is not seen.
- Some sites block or challenge automated requests; then the result shows what a crawler without a browser would get.
- Indexable means nothing blocks indexing. Whether Google chooses to index and rank the page also depends on its quality and on links to it.
FAQ
Questions about the Indexability Checker
Straight answers about what it does and where its limits are.
Does indexable mean the page will rank?
No. It means nothing on the page or server stops indexing. Google still decides whether a page is worth indexing and where it ranks.
Why check robots.txt and noindex separately?
They do different things. robots.txt controls crawling; noindex controls indexing. A page blocked in robots.txt cannot even be crawled to find its noindex.
Watch indexing for every page in Search Console.
Free tools check one thing at a time. The NdovuSEOLabs platform connects your own Search Console, analytics and server logs, and keeps checking every page.
