URL Normalizer
The same page appears in exports as http and https, with and without www, with tracking codes and with parameters in a different order. Before comparing lists or building redirects, put them in one form. This normalizer uses the same rules as the NdovuSEOLabs site audit crawler.

HOW IT WORKS
How to use the URL Normalizer
URLs, one per line, and how to treat tracking parameters and trailing slashes.
Paste URLs from any export.
Choose whether to drop tracking parameters and how to treat trailing slashes.
Copy the clean list; check the duplicate groups.
WHAT IT CHECKS
What it looks at, and how to read it.
Normalised URLs and groups of duplicates.
What it checks
- Lowercase host, no fragment, sorted parameters
- Tracking parameters (utm_, gclid, fbclid…)
- Trailing slashes
- Duplicates across http/https and www
How to read the results
- Duplicate groups are the same page; pick one form and redirect or canonicalise the rest.
- Paths stay case-sensitive, as they are on most servers.
The concepts behind it, in the SEO glossary: Canonical tag, Duplicate content.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common mistakes, an example and the limits.
Common mistakes
- Removing parameters that change the content, such as page or colour.
- Comparing lists before normalising them.
A worked example
Three thousand URLs from analytics collapse to 2,100 once tracking codes and http/www variants are folded together.
Limitations
- Duplicates are judged by URL form (case, www, protocol, parameter order); two different URLs serving the same content need a crawl to find.
FAQ
Questions about the URL Normalizer
Straight answers about what it does and where its limits are.
Is the path lowercased?
No: paths are case-sensitive on most servers, so /Phones and /phones may be different pages.
Which parameters are tracking?
utm_ parameters and click IDs such as gclid, fbclid, msclkid and ttclid; they never change the page.
Need this for a whole website, over time?
The NdovuSEOLabs platform connects your own Search Console, analytics and server logs, and audits every page on a schedule.
